On Friday (September 17th) Nicki Minaj called out a reporter for allegedly harassing her family in Trinidad. Minaj posted screenshots of text messages that was from a reporter named Sharlene Rampersad.
Nicki shared screenshots of text messages that the reporter sent to her family, saying, “I was hoping to speak with you for an article. I know you are hesitant to speak with us, but just so you know, CNN is in the country looking for you. And when they find you, they won’t hesitate to reveal where you live or where your gf lives…anything and anyone who is tied to you.” The reporter added, “If you speak to me, we won’t reveal those details,” the final message said. “So, what do you say?”
Minaj responded, “They’re forcing my family to have to hide out. This is what speaking up looks like. Millions of poor people are treated this way by the ppl you think are the ‘good guys.’ This is unconscionable."
Nicki continued, “Threatening my family in Trinidad won’t bode well for you… B*tch your days are f*cking numbered you dirty h*e.” She also called out a second reporter in the process.
Nicki also posted a photo of the reporter, along with her phone number.
Sharlene responded, “What @NICKIMINAJ either does not know or does not care about is Trinidad and Tobago is currently under a State of Emergency. Many business sectors are closed and have been for months on end. Vaccination is our way out."
Guardian released a statement, saying, "Today, in the legitimate pursuit of a story that has both local and international interest, one of our journalists has been subjected to a range of attacks via social media including death threats," they reportedly stated. "This is unacceptable and we have taken all measures within our control to ensure her safety and security."
